Stephen F. Austin lieutenant Colonel of the Militia of the Colony on the Colorado and Brazos rivers in the Province of Texas and charged by the Mexican Govt with the appointment of the Militia officers of said Colony untill its organization is completed—

It appearing by the official returns of the election held on the 15 day of May instant for the officers of the upper detachment of the Colorado that Jessee Burnam was duly elected Captain of said detachment, therefore I do by these presents appoint the said Jessee Burnam Captain of said upper detachment of the Colorado to hold said commission untill the organization of the Battalion may render a new election necesary or until the Govt. of this Province orders otherwise—hereby commanding the Militia of said detachment to obey their said captain accordingly
