Power of Attorney

Know all men by these presents—that I Adam Brown of the County of Cape Gerrideau and Territory of Missouri have this fifteenth Day of November one thousand Eight Hundred and Seventeen Constituted and appointed, and do by these presents constitute and appoint Moses Austin of the County of St Louis and Town of Herculaneum, to be my Lawfull Attorney and in my name to Demand from all and every person whatsoever, having any transactions with me the said Adam Brown—To make settlements, and payment. Either on open Accounts or Bonds—To Demand Deeds and transfers of property, both real and personal—To make settlements and give discharges in all unsettled matters, either for Lands or Tenements, in Town or Country, or for any other property—To demand from Samuel Hammond a full settlement of all my transactions, both in Law and Equity, whether for Land and Tenament, or for other property—and in fine I do by these presents Authorize and make Legal all the acts and doings of my said Attorney touching any matter or thing wherein I am interested Confirming and agreeing to the same—the same as if done by myself in person
