My Dear Sir,

This will be handed you by a relative and long esteemed friend— Mr John T. Hawkins.

He goes to your land of promise bow'd down by disease, and will need all your kindness.

He wishes to become a settler—has a large family—and should his health be restored will be a valuable acquisition, Treat him as you would one of my most valued friends and one whom it would give me sincere pleasure to serve.

Sir attended with much pain and many difficulty I have remained here Eight months expecting to see you but not one of the settlers have heard from you patience is exausted and I have detirmend to return I had selected a prime spot for which in the month of April last I would not have taken $5,000 not hearing any act of you have sold it to day for a mule
