Stephen F. Austin to Public, 01-10-1824

It appearing from the official returns of the election held by the inhabitants of the District of San Felipe de Austin at the House of John McFarlan on the 20 day of December last for an Alcalde for said district for the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, that Sylvanus Castleman was duly elected Alcalde of said district for the said term, There [fore] I Stephen F. Austin charged by the Superior Authorities of the Mexican Nation with the Government of the Colony on the Colorado and Brazos untill its organization is finally completed do by these presents appoint the said Sylvanus Castleman Alcalde of said district of St. Felipe de Austin for the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, here by commanding all persons to recognise and obey him accordingly

Given under My hand at the Town of St. Felipe de Austin this 1 day of January 1824, 3d- 2d

This day personally appeared before me Stephen F Austin Judge of the Colony on the Colorado and Brasas the within said Sylvanus Castleman and took the oath to support the Constitution of the Mexican Nation and faithfully discharge the duties of Alcalde for the district of St. Felipe de Austin for the year 1824—
