Colonists to Stephen F. Austin, 10-xx-1824

Summary: Petition for appointment of J. Hunter as surveyor.

To his Honor Col. Stephen F. Austin

We the people of San Jacinto and Vicinity humbly beg leave to represent that Whereas in our humble opinion the lands in this Section of your Honor's Colony—are of a quality not to warrant a general Survey of the whole and whereas as we humbly suppose there will be emegrants dropping in from time to time requiring more or less locations in this Section of the Country and in that case a local surveyor will be very convenient both to ourselves and to those who may hereafter come. Therefore if it is not contrary to the regulations of your Honor we humbly beg the apointment of such an one amongst our Citizens—we nominate to your Honor Doct. J. Hunter who is one of the first settlers here,

and so as in duty Bound we will forever Pray Oct. the anno Domini 1824
