H. Meigs to Stephen F Austin, 09-27-1834
Summary: Informing Austin of his efforts to secure his release.
New York
Dr Sir
I have endeavored some time ago to inform you not only of my claim but of the measures which I caused to be taken in your behalf, the moment I learned that you was detained a prisoner in Mexico— I lost no time in procuring from our Governt (through my Brother in Law Forsyth (now Secretary of State) and my friend M McLean, then Secy.) the immediate interferance thereof in your behalf.
I trust that it has been useful to you.
I hope to hear from you with little delay—I wish you well and shall be happy in every honorable way to do you good.
[Addressed;] Colonel Stephen Austin of Texas
